OVER ALL PERSONALITY,
In general, Severus has a personality better befitting a ninety-five year old man, who constantly tells young teens to keep off his grass. He is generally unhappy, bitter, and very difficult to get along with. Because of this, he has few friends, and numerous enemies, in all senses of the word. This bitterness stems from his overall past. Growing up in an abusive, and negligent home, his only escape from fear and loathing, was a young girl named Lily Evans. With her, he was able to cast aside his bitterness, if only slightly, but that was stolen from him. When he lost her friendship, his bitter nature completely took over his life, causing his heart to grow cold. In this bitterness, he trusts very few.
Severus, for his entire life, was constantly put under a large amount of stress, presented to him in the forms of his father, and his precarious position at school. More recently, the stress is more self-imposed, as he refuses to move on, and leave behind the love he feels for Lily. This refusal traps him in a sort of limbo. Stubbornly, he clings to the one bit of true happiness he ever had, and hopes to keep it safe, even if he is unwanted. Though he is a perfectionist, he constantly finds himself rushing about, to accomplish as much as he possibly can.
This last life is where he locks the majority of his remorse, which is an emotion most would believe Snape incapable of. This is an incorrect assumption, however, as he feels it all too well. First and foremost, he feels remorse for what he said to Lily. Their friendship was his most prized possession. He is constantly reminded of how foolish he was, and how no amount of apology will bring her back to him. This remorse, caused by his love, is kept hidden from most. Also within him, is a remorse for not being able to protect his mother. This fuels his distaste for Muggles, and their fear of Magic.
The mind of Severus Snape, is a brilliant one. Logical to a fault, despite several irrational moments, he is driven by success and perfection. Extremely adept in both the Dark Arts, and Potion making, Severus also strives to perfect healing magic to a certain extent. His mind is what sets him apart from most others, as he not only uses it to excell in his lessons, but also crafts his own spells. Wandless and wordless magic are not overly difficult for him, and he is a masterful Occlumens. His brilliance is driven by his curiosity, and also his general distrust. Everything seems to enthrall Severus, if he knows little about it, both for academic pursuits, and also because if he knows little to nothing about it, it can be used against him. He doesn't want to leave very many of those doors open.

ROLE-PLAY SAMPLE,
Severus Tobias Snape had never in his life been a very happy man, and certainly now, was no different. Abuse and neglect had left him cold and hard, while a broken heart left him just that, broken. The former, of course, was more evident than the latter in the severe man's appearance and actions. Even now, at the young age of nineteen, people stayed clear of the imposing fellow, intent on remaining as far out of his way as possible. This of course, suited Severus just fine. The more people left him be, the fewer enemies he could make. Enemies were all the man seemed to have. No friends, not any more at any rate. Enemies, and comrades, but no friends. None since Lily.
Of course, this lack of friends didn't really bother Severus. The lack of Lily did immensely though. He was so angry that she had denied his apology...that she had married PotterIt boiled his very blood to think of it, but he retained his composure. He was very good at that. Of course, many would find his composure a curse, and not a blessing, as it was the reason he was so unapproachable, but he had learned long ago that it was better to keep people away, instead of letting them in. He had let Lily get much too close, and everyone knew how well that had ended for him.
On this particular dreary day in December, Severus found himself at the Apothecary. The Dark Lord had been asking for several potions of late, and his stores were running thin. Time had come to restock. Honestly, Severus would buy any and every ingredient in the store he could, in rather large amounts. Or rather, he would if he could afford to. Sadly, without a job, Severus was not a very rich man. The most lavish thing he owned currently, aside from the potions ingredients he bought with his own money, to serve his Lord, were the robes he was wearing. Deep black, though these were Bengaline silk, treated to withstand fires and spills, with a high collar, and a plethora of buttons, the robes were of his own design. He had scrimped and saved to get them, and this was his first time wearing them out. He was quite proud of the effect they had. Imposing robes, for an imposing man, he mused, chuckling darkly at the thought as he continued to make a mental note of the ingredients he would be needing.
He made the mental list in order of importance, knowing what he would need immediately, and what could wait a little longer. It was imperative he get certain things, and since money was a hindrance to him currently, he had to be careful with his shopping. Distraction was one thing that hardly ever escaped Severus. He often focused so strongly on things, that his surroundings completely left him, at least when it was something so trivial and daily as shopping. He didn't allow himself to become so lost when entering into a battle. Today, was one such time when distraction was prevalent in Severus' life. The list of ingredients in his head, and the vast array of ingredients before him had him so lost, that he forgot he wasn't the only person in the shop.
Of course, he was made painfully aware of that fact all too soon, when he found himself bumping into a warm, fleshy body. Turning quickly, robes billowing about his legs, Severus made to snap at the person he'd jostled, only to find himself met with an all too familiar head of red hair. All animosity left him in that instant, and there was a sort of deflating of ego as he stared, a bit slack jawed at the woman he'd so carelessly collided with. Shaking his head, he quickly composed himself, settling his gaze upon her and remaining calm and collected in appearance, while inwardly feeling confused and torn. Here he was, confronted by the one woman he wanted and could never have, and he had no earthly idea what to do.
He cleared his throat quietly, keeping his tone even and calm, not affected by the cruelty he normally showed to people, even when he himself was at fault, or by the care and love he felt for her. Most certainly, he didn't show the pain he felt at losing her. If anything, his voice was empty as he said, "Hello, Lily." He didn't apologize for bumping her, simply because apologizing was not in his nature, but inwardly, he was saying a million apologies to her, for so many things. Only a few years ago, he had apologized to this woman profusely, and it had gotten him nowhere. Why should he waste his breath now, on useless things?

I can't say I miss you. You're always around.
I can't say I love you, 'cause you'll cut me down.
I'm wounded and hurt, and that's my fault,
but I made my decision with my back to the wall..

HAIR,
Snape has, black and greasy, shoulder length hair, however, this is because he'd constantly stressing and rushing about. He washes at his hair, but never thoroughly washes it.
WEIGHT, about 130
HEIGHT, 6'
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES/FLAWS, Hooked nose,
TATTOOS/PIERCINGS, None yet
OVER ALL APPEARANCE,
Severus Snape tends to be a rather imposing figure. His hair is constantly unkempt, oily from working over cauldrons and just not washing it properly, with dark eyes that have seen more sorrow than should be allowed. When not in his school robes, his clothing is a bit shabbier than one would expect, and seems to all be from second hand shops, faded and worn. He hardly ever wears jeans, preferring slacks. Likewise, he preferrs button downs to t-shirts.

OVER ALL HISTORY,
Severus Tobias Snape was born January 9th, 1960 to Eileen Prince Snape, Witch, and Tobias Snape, Muggle. His father was a rather unpleasant man, who seemed to have an intense dislike of everything, including his wife and child. Their family was poor, as Tobias worked in one of the many factories near their humble home of Spinner's End, and didn't allow Eileen to work at all, insisting she stay home, and tend to the house, and to Severus. Though she attempted to remain strong for her son, Severus saw the way his mother cried when she thought he wasn't looking, and swore from a very young age to protect her. He didn't find out just exactly what he was protecting her from, until he was three. Returning home one evening late, a drunk Tobias proceeded to yell at his poor wife, demanding to know why his dinner was cold. Toddler Severus tried hard to end the yelling, bravely standing up to his father, only to have his nose broke, when the man slapped him hard and square.
After that, Severus vowed his revenge on the man, but honored the wishes of his mother, who requested he try and stay on his father's good side. In the years that followed, Tobias would beat his son to within an inch of his life twice, both times finding no physical opposition from Severus, but plenty of mental, and even Magical retaliation. By the time Severus was five, Tobias had decided he no longer had a son, and blatantly refused to buy anything specifically for the young boy. Eileen had to sneak baths for her son, resulting in his skin being clean, but his hair being rather unkempt, and often greasy. Once Tobias got wind of this, however, he began locking Severus away for days at a time, his mother unable to do anything for him other than bring him just enough food to sustain him at a healthy level.
By the time he was eight, Tobias decided Severus was old enough to be of some use, and put the boy to work. Daily, a long list of difficult chores was given to Severus, ranging from mundane tasks, to things that Severus was physically unable to do. Failure to complete tasks set forth resulted in his father's wrath, so Severus and his mother did their best to accomplish everything, but there were only so many hours to a day. Thankfully, there were days when Tobias would neglect to assign Severus work. It was on one such day, when he met Lily Evans. At the age of nine, Severus was definitely showing the signs of negligence and abuse. His clothing was a hodge-podge of things that hardly fit, or belonged to his father, hair long and greasy, having only ever been cut by his mother, and skin sickly pale. Within his eyes was both maturity, and a child's curiosity, with which he watched Lily's display of magic. His excitement knew no bounds when he told her what she was. Here was someone like him, aside from his mother. Someone his own age, with whom he could bond with. Their bond would last a good seven years.
September 1, 1971, was a day Severus Snape had been looking forward to for the majority of his short life. Hogwarts, where he would be away from his father, and in the world his mother had left behind, free to use his gifts. Things were not as simple as Snape had hoped they would be, however. Not only was he separated from his best friend, being sorted into Slytherin, but he made enemies nearly immediately. James Potter, and Sirius Black. Nothing was simple for the young man. Here, where he had hoped to be free from torment, he was only met by more. As if it wasn't bad enough, having his father abuse him at home, James and Sirius made things worse. Not only that, he found himself struggling to prove himself within his own house. Blood status was important, he soon found out, and it was something that he would struggle with greatly. Eventually, however, Severus found that despite his blood status, Slytherins stuck together, and coupled with his brilliance, the fact that he was simply of that house brought him allies, if not friends. Sadly, Lily didn't exactly care for the company he kept.
In June of 1976, all semblance of happiness was stolen from Severus. The day of his O.W.L.'s, he was nothing but confident, not struggling in the slightest with the testing. He felt the day could be nothing but good, until he was reminded of the existence of Potter and Black. Spelled upside down, robes falling, the pair put Severus' undergarments on display for the entire assembled student body. Infuriated and embarrassed, he snapped when Lily came to his defense, calling her a name that would cement his fate. Mudblood. Try as he might, he couldn't convince her that he hadn't meant it, and she severed all ties to the man. This event was, to Severus, the worst in his entire life.
